Assertive (still listening)	v.	Argumentative (no longer listening
Aggravated (trying to retreat)	v.	Aggressive (not trying to retreat)
Contact (touch to renew or continue relationship)	v.	Assault (contact meant to destroy relationship)

Conflict from Two Perspectives
Traditional	Pluralistic
Conflict is "bad" and must be eliminated	Conflict is good and should be encouraged
Conflict need not occur	Conflict is inevitable
Conflict results in distrust	Conflict results from struggle for limited rewards
People are essentially good and cooperate	People are driven by achievement
