The Office of Government and
Community Relations is
typically the first point of contact between Southwest Oklahoma media
and Cameron University. The office's primary task is to assist area
newspapers, radio and television stations in their coverage of
university activities. With rare exceptions, Government and Community
Relations develops and distributes all Cameron University media
releases.
What We Do
Through its relationship with the media, the Office
of
Government and Community Relations promotes public awareness of Cameron
University. It also answers public inquiries about university programs
and encourages residents and potential students to actively consider
the university as a source of adult education.
Government and Community Relations assists the
university's educational and administrative offices in the development
of promotional materials and is available to university staff in an
advisory role for media and public relations information. It assists
the university's alumni relations office by editing its alumni
publication, Cameron Today.
The office serves as a clearinghouse for much of the
information appearing on CUTV, the campus' cable television channel,
and it produces and distributes a monthly
calendar highlighting events occurring at Cameron. This calendar is
provided free of charge to faculty, staff and area media, as well as
being included in this website. Government and Community Relations also
programs information appearing on Cameron's electronic message board
located near 38th & Gore in Lawton.
Government and Community Relations continues to explore
new advancements in computer technology, including the electronic
delivery of press
releases to Southwest Oklahoma media via e-mail and the World Wide
Web. The office is also responsible for updating events and stories on
the university's main web page.
